Opening of NL Aviation Plaza

On Thursday, August 29th, we celebrated the grand opening of NL Aviation Plaza, the new office we share with NAG and LRN.

During the event, we celebrated the opening of this new location as the place where the innovation power of the Dutch aviation sector comes together. After inspiring speeches from Ron van Manen, Frank Jansen, and Aad Veenman, Niek Lobé, Renate Beausoleil, and Saskia Bruines also shared their thoughts on the significance of NL Aviation Plaza for the future of the sector.

We are thrilled with our new workspace and look forward to welcoming you soon in NL Aviation Plaza.

Vacancy: Project Managers for Strengthening Ecosystem

NAG is actively seeking to expand their team for the Strengthening Ecosystem project.

If you’re looking for an exciting opportunity, or know someone who might be interested, please contact Peter Kortbeek.

The position is also available on a secondment basis.

Taskforce Certification

Led by the Project Office and supported by the Strengthening Ecosystem project, the Taskforce Certification has been launched. Certification is a critical factor for ensuring profitability in aviation. The Taskforce’s goal is to ensure that the projects within Luchtvaart in Transitie (LiT) adequately address the certification of the developed technologies and products. This also includes the certification of organisations and suppliers. OObtaining a Design Organization Approval (DOA) and Production Organization Approval (POA), as well as gaining recognition as a supplier to companies like Airbus, are costly and time-consuming investments.

We are also exploring potential collaborations with ILT and EASA, and participation in industry working groups such as SAE and EUROCAE. Additionally, we are seeking alignment and collaboration with the Clean Aviation project “CONCERTO”.

In May and June of this year, the Taskforce conducted initial exploratory meetings with all ongoing projects. In the autumn, further discussions and a webinar for the entire LiT network will follow.

The Taskforce currently consists of Peter Kortbeek representing the NAG for the SEA project, and Eric van der Veen from the Project Office. They would highly appreciate the involvement from other organisations and projects in the Taskforce. Do you see a role for yourself? Or do you have any questions about this topic? Don’t hesitate to send an email!

Project Updates

Update on the Temporary Subsidy Scheme

July 15th was the deadline for knowledge institutes to submit proposals for the Promising Research module. This module is part of the temporary LiT subsidy scheme and is aimed at knowledge institutes conducting research on the development of clean aircraft technologies. The focus is specifically on knowledge questions related to smart structural components and enabling hydrogen-powered flight. Sixteen proposals were submitted, totaling €18.7 million. The proposals are being evaluated based on the assessment criteria, and the selected initiatives will receive funding in mid-October. A second round for this module will open in April 2026, with a budget of €5.25 million.

Applications for knowledge and test vouchers and feasibility projects under the Strengthening SME Innovation Capacity (VIM) module can be submitted until December 2nd and 9th, respectively. The opening for R&D collaborative projects will follow in the spring of 2025.

More information about the subsidy scheme and upcoming openings can be found on the website of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).

Updates from Strengthening Ecosystem

The Strengthening Ecosystem project has made a strong start. Here are some recent developments and activities we’re excited to share.

Finance Table

On June 24th, in collaboration with consultancy firm Wederic and the RVO, they organized the ‘Finance Table Sustainable Aviation’ webinar. A wide range of financing options was discussed, from the initial concept phase to industrialization. The importance of creating a financial roadmap, alongside the technological roadmap, was highlighted during this webinar. The presentation from this webinar can be found on our website.

Are you interested in financing opportunities? The slide deck is available online, and a second workshop will be organized next quarter. If you’re already interested in participating, please contact Peter Kortbeek.

Collaboration with Human Capital Agenda

In the third quarter, the projects Strengthening Ecosystem and Human Capital Agenda will start a labour market survey, to identify critical factors needed for the transition to sustainable aviation and the growth of the sector. The labor market survey will consist of in-depth interviews with 20-25 organizations that are part of LiT. Do you have ideas on how to strengthen the Dutch sustainable aviation ecosystem? Let them know by emailing Peter Kortbeek!

Events

Farnborough Recap

From 22 to 26 July, the international aviation show Farnborough took place.

A significant number of partners from Luchtvaart in Transitie (LiT) were present at this prestigious event. NAG once again hosted an excellently organised NL Pavilion, where various LiT partners, including GKN, Aeronamic, Fokker Next Gen, and NLR, were represented with stands.

It was fantastic to see many members of the LiT community visiting the trade show regularly to arrange meetings with suppliers, potential customers, and fellow companies.

Special recognition goes to the GKN team, both the British and Dutch branches, for their impressive presentation and networking event focused on hydrogen fuel cell technology. They provided a comprehensive overview of the projects completed so far and offered an inspiring look ahead at the next steps.

Next Stop: Paris for the 55th Paris Air Show, which will be held from 16 to 22 June 2025. With the accelerating LiT sub-projects, we may be able to present more content from the broader LiT participant landscape.
